I’m a twin. I like to spend my time cooking, playing video games, drawing, writing, reading, quilting, watching movies, and shopping. I also like art, manga, Lolita fashion, and steam punk.

With my wide variety of interest I’ll probably post a lot of random things. I like to post the covers of the books I’ve read. :3

Half a Set of Bookends

My World of Warcraft toon, a female troll priest.
My twin sister got me watching this. I watched it until there were no more episodes. I’m definitely going to pick up this up in manga form next time I’m in a book store.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

This is the game I’m currently replaying. I’ve played through it twice before: once on medium and once on easy. Now I’m playing trough it on hard mode! The only problem is: I’m trying to get every unit and have them all survive. This game is a bit brutal. If you lose one of your characters in battle they die and you can never use them again. I’ll tell you now, I do a lot of resetting because I get people killed a lot. Also when your units level up it adds stats at random. One time, my thief, Colm leveled up and it didn’t add to any of his stats at all. At the end of this game you can keep playing at this tower and this castle thing. The monsters there sometimes drop things to boost stats. Or you can get an item that lets you access as secret shop but I can’t remember when or where it drops. Colm’s pretty strong already though so I’m not too worried about it.

(Colm in the English one, Coma in the Japanese version)

I love the art in/from this game, and the tiny people! A few of my friends never read the story when they play through any of the Fire Emblem games. (They just tap start through all of cut scenes.) I always do though, and this one has to have my favorite one. Maybe it’s the twins in this one, I don’t know.

Sorry no screen shots of game play. I’m too lazy to search the web and find them.

.hack// Another Birth vol.2//mutation_

I love the cover art! I was pleasantly surprised that this batch of .hack// books are in Black Rose’s point of view. I couldn’t find vol. 1 so I just went ahead and read vol. 2 anyway. I just finished reading this manga sized novel. I love how I can put it on my shelf and it fits in with the rest of them.

I sort of understand why most of my neighbors see them as weeds but I honestly would prefer to have a yard full of them over sharp looking grass. I love their little, rounded, heart shaped leaves and their white flowers. I read a while ago that a gift of clovers can signify a promise. I think they’d look cute in a bouquet even if they have short stems.

I read here and here that the white clover in North Carolina produce cyanide to keep slugs from eating them and that’s why they have a white stripe across their leaves. They are safe for humans to eat though, in NC anyway.

White and red clover flowers can both be used to make tea but I haven’t tried it yet. The young leaves do make a tasty addition to salads though.

Reblog if people say you don’t look your age.

thepainofdreams:

You must understand that I remember very little of my childhood. There are a few very vivid segments of events. I remember my mom used to lay out fabric across the floor in the living room to cut, and she was always embroidering on long trips. Thinking back, I realize she must have been working on this quilt maybe before I was even born. It was a peacock quilt. I think it was around my sister and my 16th birthday when she finished it. I wish I had taken a picture. It was them most beautiful quilt I have ever seen.

All of the greens, blues, and browns swirling together in their swishing tails; and their beautiful emerald and sapphire bodies; the creamy white of the blocks’ background that brought life to the dark colors; the vivid, dark green boarder that pulled your eyes to the quilt itself; and all the movement created by the thread stitched carefully around each bird and block. She had made many quilts while I was growing up, but this quilt was her masterpiece.

She gave it to her mother before I graduated high school. I think my grandmother had seen her working on it all those years never knowing that it would be given to her.

Back in high school, I learned about quilt making and its history, and I made a small simple quilt for my senior exit project, after being mentored by a close family friend. In case you don’t know what the senior exit project is: It was this huge semester long project that my senior class had to do in order to graduate in Concord, North Carolina. I’m not sure how many other high schools had to do them but it pretty much replaced senior English class, or English IV. (I was looking forward to English IV my sophomore year because I found out that it had a ton of British literature in the class. :( But my junior year come and the class changed horridly. Not that all the aspects of the senior exit project were bad, though the project was extremely flawed.) That aside, I made one quilt and I was hooked! I couldn’t stop thinking of quilting. I’ve since drafted up several quilts on graph paper, though I currently lack the resources to make them all. I’ve started patch working with spare fabric from clothes that my sisters and I out grew long ago.

My mother, with all that she taught me, never had the time to teach me how to quilt, but she inspired me and encouraged me. Inspiration goes a long way. Maybe one day I’ll be able to give her a masterpiece of my own!

This winter I plan to start work on a quilt with my mom and maybe stitch together some memories before I move out.

Regina Spekto’s “The Call”

The Dragon Heir left a bitter taste in my mouth. It had a good ending, but it was like tasting dark chocolate for the first time after only having eating sweet milk chocolate for a long time. The creaminess of the cocoa butter was still there, the sweet taste of sugar was still there, yet the bitter taste of the cocoa was stronger almost burning. Still good to eat, just bitter.

Hmm… once again I find myself comparing things to food.

I ran into this song on Pandora Radio.
I have to say this copy was in the worst shape. It’s spine was broken, some of the pages were glued together (by some substance or another), and the ink was smudge. It was a real challenge on some of the pages but I read and finished it!!

Yesterday night, on a whim, I bought a bag of apples. This bag of apples was unusual because it didn’t have the name of the variety, or varieties, inside the bag, it just said MICHIGAN across the side of it. As far as I know there isn’t a variety of apples called the “Michigan”, even though the state does grow a large amount of apples. I think they are either McIntosh or Ida Red, maybe a combination of both.

This morning I took a bite of one and a memory struck me with it’s sweet sent. It was from when I was little, I think maybe I was five or six. I remember sitting with my great grandpa at his kitchen table and watching him peel apples for my sisters and I. It was like magic, watching him take the knife and the skin roll off of the apple in one long unbroken spiral. I was amazed, I wanted to do it too but my great grandmother intervened saying, “She’ll cut her soft little hands.”

Then I realized I’d never peeled an apple like that before. I took my pairing knife, and pealed, and pealed, and pealed. I didn’t stop until half of the Michigan apples were sitting there, their pale yellow flesh slowly fading to brown, skinless and I had perfected making one long unbroken ribbon of the red skin of each apple.

I’ll probably take them all and cook them in a pan with a little sugar, butter, and cinnamon. If I do I’ll eat it with toast or popovers if I feel like cooking more.

Mother Nature vs Virginia

An earthquake just shook up Virgina, its swamp as been on burning, and there’s a hurricane heading for it.

The quake hit D.C. as well. I have yet to read anything about damages though.

The Great Dismal Swamp is normally a pretty place but fires have been eating up its trees and wildlife.

I live in North Carolina. Sort of near a Lowes Motor Speedway and Concord Mills, if you know what that is, and I’m a little concerned about the incoming hurricane and the possible after shocks from the quake.

X-Files

I found some seasons of X-Files on DVDs while cleaning and I’ve been watching them disc by disc for a week now. I want the poster from Mulder’s office to put up in my room.

I love the mystery, science fiction, and trench coats in the X-Files.
